Also in Nigeria, we support a form of "direct" support to an indigenous missionary program called Calvary Ministries. CAPRO is made up of a group of Nigerian nationals who are thoroughly trained and focused on reaching people groups in remote areas of northern Nigeria that have not heard the good news of the gospel.
We fund people like Rueben and Victoria as they set up schools, medical facilities and churches, bringing physical and spiritual healing to the un-reached people of the Achipawa Tribe.
Mission Trips
It's important to not only support missions financially, but also to provide assistance and hands on experience. We do this through our mission trips. We have taken trips to Nigeria and Haiti, assisting in medical clinics, building projects, and education. We sent teams to Alabama and New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. We sent a team to Orange, Texas following Hurricane Ike. Our youth have worked with inner-city projects in Los Angeles and New York City.
We provide scholarships for students preparing for vocational ministry while attending a Christian College. We are presently supporting four students at $500 per semester.
We periodically have requests for assistance from people inside and outside our church. Before giving these funds we carefully assess the legitimacy of the need. During Christmas, we have many projects from food boxes to toy drives to help others.
In addition to the ministries we currently support on a regular basis, we also undertake several special projects each year. Past projects have included raising funds to build a bridge and dig wells in Nigeria, sending containers filled with needed supplies and food to Haiti, providing materials and work teams to Hurricane Katrina victims. Our goal is to have at least two special projects per year.
We have an annual dinner featuring displays representing different countries, native costumes, and international music. We also feature guest missionary speakers who share their experiences and adventures, present mission opportunities, and challenge us to catch the vision for God's "Great Commission" around the world. This is an event you don't want to miss!
