Gifts That Make a Difference

Many of us give gifts. Some are offered to show our love or concern for friends, relative or those in need. Others are the result of our commitment to regularly give to the Lord through our offerings.

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." ~ 2 Corinthians 9:6-8

Did you know that you can present gifts to God that will have a positive impact on others and may also provide you valuable financial benefits? While giving should first be motivated by our desire to share the blessing God has given us, maximizing the tax and cash flow benefits available to you shows real wisdom. In fact, our tax laws are written to encourage charitable giving.

If your heart's desire is to invest in the Lord's work and at the same time you want to make the most of your financial resources, review the following information. Then contact a Pastor at The Grace Place to learn how your gifts can benefit you financially while making an eternal difference in the lives of others.

What kinds of gifts are allowed? In addition to the usual contributions of cash, you may give:

  • stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and life insurance proceeds
  • residential real estate, business property or interest, and land
  • automobiles, art work, jewelry, and other personal property

How can I reduce or eliminate my taxes? There are many significant tax incentives:

  • income taxes are reduced by deducting your donation's value
  • you can avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated assets
  • estate taxes can be eliminated by using trusts and insurance

What questions should I ask before donating? There are three main factors that will determine your options:

  • do you need to keep some of the principal or interest?
  • are there heirs or beneficiaries who also need to benefit?
  • will the gift appreciate and when is it available to donate?

How will personal property donations be used? Based on the item, we may use it, sell it, or give it to someone else

  • furniture, toys and computers can be used in our classrooms
  • mobile homes, land, and investments are typically sold for cash
  • autos can be given to single-parents for transportation needs
Whether you are a young family just getting started, or are in your peak-earning years, or own a thriving business, or are enjoying your retirement years, planning your charitable-giving strategies is vital. Learn how you, your heirs and your beneficiaries, and The Grace Place can all benefit by carefully establishing a charitable-giving plan.
